Traveling through Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) can be overwhelming due to its sheer size and constant bustle, but my recent experience flying with Breeze Airways at ORD Terminal 5 was surprisingly pleasant. Known as one of the newer budget airlines in the U.S., Breeze Airways is expanding steadily and has made its mark by operating from Terminal 5, which has traditionally been known for international flights. This terminal, while recently upgraded, still has its quirks, but Breeze seems to make the best of what’s available.
First off, the check-in process was refreshingly efficient. Breeze Airways ORD Terminal has dedicated counters in Terminal 5, and unlike the chaotic scenes you might expect during peak travel hours at O’Hare, the Breeze counters were relatively calm. The staff were friendly, smiling, and genuinely helpful—something that made a big difference for someone like me who prefers a stress-free start to a journey. The self-check kiosks were working properly, and bag drop was quick. That said, travelers should always arrive early, especially at O’Hare, as TSA lines can vary wildly depending on the time of day.
Terminal 5 itself has undergone noticeable renovations, and this works in Breeze’s favor. The interiors feel much more modern and airy than a few years ago. There are plenty of seating areas, new shops, and some upgraded dining options. It’s not the best terminal in the U.S., but for a budget carrier, Breeze Airways seems to benefit from the recent improvements in infrastructure. Still, if you’re expecting the same level of services as the main domestic terminals (like Terminal 1 or 3), be aware that food options are more limited here.
Boarding was smooth. Breeze uses digital signage efficiently, and the gate staff were proactive in making announcements and organizing groups. I appreciated that the flight crew and ground staff remained courteous even when passengers had questions or made last-minute seat requests. One thing to note is that boarding bridges in Terminal 5 can sometimes require a longer walk, so be prepared, especially if you’re traveling with small kids or carry-on luggage.
As for the actual flight, Breeze Airways lives up to its promise of providing a “Seriously Nice” experience. Seats were comfortable for a budget airline, with decent legroom and clean cabins. What stands out most is the friendly customer service. Breeze doesn’t yet offer extensive flight options from ORD, but what they do offer is well-executed, and the value for money is excellent.
Overall, my Breeze Airways ORD Terminal experience was better than expected. While Terminal 5 is still finding its footing as a domestic hub, Breeze is making good use of it, offering a solid and budget-friendly travel option with a clean, efficient, and customer-focused approach. It’s not luxury, but it doesn’t try to be—and in today’s world of chaotic travel, a little bit of calm and friendliness goes a long way.
